On the 26th November 2004 approval was given for the Ail Wynt project, the extension to the existing Cwmni Gwynt Teg wind farm. Congratulations to everyone who was involved in all the hard work to get the project approved. Another great success in the fight against climate change! |

A unique project harnessing natural
energy, conceived, developed and owned by part of the local
farming community.
Welcome to the fascinating story
of the Wind Farmers
Welcome to the web site of Ail Wynt a new wind farm project on the hills near Llanrwst in North Wales. Ail Wynt is the proposed new development which builds on the success of the existing award winning scheme, Cwmni Gwynt Teg. Both projects are unique because they have been conceived, developed and owned by a co-operative of three local farming families.
Initiated in response to falling income from hill sheep farming,
Cwmni Gwynt Teg won the prestigious Ashden Awards for Sustainable
Energy in June 2003. A major factor in its success was the
sensitivity
that the co-operative has shown towards community and environmental
issues. This web site is designed to provide more information
about these issues, and the many other fascinating aspects
of
both projects.
The aim of the project
To develop wind power for electricity generation in a way that
retains the economic benefit within the local community.
